Restaurant “Domini”

After having been renovated the restaurant of the Youth Hostel is one of the most comfortable places in Skopje. It has huge covered terrace with green surrounding and traditionally styled walls (combination of mud and straw). This is very visible restaurant specialized in Macedonian traditional cuisine. It is real discovery for everyone wanting to get familiar with what Macedonian grannies cooked for the holidays in the past times. There are many things to be tasted so do not hesitate to visit it over and over again. The space is huge but the atmosphere is almost like home, and the personnel is expectedly young and friendly. The music is discrete and the prices are cheaper than the other restaurants from the same range. It attracts a lot of young people and is the usually the eating place for hostel guests.

Menu: The dishes are fairly huge, but well decorated. The restaurant serves the best Macedonian salad (tomatoes, onion, garlic, grilled pepper with rich seasoning. This salad is excellent opportunity to taste the delicious “strumicka mastika” (double distilled white grape, anis and gum). The daska “ordever” is very delicious, with the best cheese staffed peppers. “Daska” is combination of several cold creamed salads, “sarmicki” (stuffed vine leaves), local cured ham, old cheese, different traditional fried meals (leek with eggs, fried eggplant and fried zucchini, red dry sweet pepper with leek, “pindzur” (minced baked eggplant, pepper, tomato, garlic, well seasoned), “ajvar”, (Ajvar: peppers are soften, than the skin is removed and then melted and simmered for hours constantly steered adding carrots and eggplant). The restaurant offers surprisingly good, strong, homemade “rakija”. (Macedonian rakija “zolta” is made of grape and is specially yellowed by addition of extra wheat at the secondary fermenting stage).

Brezovacka “pleskavica” (minced meat filled with hot green pepper and very soft cheese).The most hilarious specialty is the Dvojnik (twin) rolled pork meat, covered with bacon, and filled with mushrooms, yellow cheese and pork ham. The huge and fatty pork ribs are also on the top list. One should not avoid stuffed peppers with rice, than turlitava, vegetarian baked mix of local vegetables. They serve excellent “tavce gravce” (butter beans stewed in earth ware pot). Another delicacy is the “selsko meso” (village meat) a stew of different meats and sausages in earthenware pot. It is made of the best meat in Skopje. The restaurant offers a very good “raznic” (skewed meat on a small sword).
